Pritesh began his IP career at the Intellectual Property Office of New Zealand (IPONZ) as a patent examiner, focusing on patents in the fields of mechanical, electronics and ICT. He then joined our firm, where he trained and worked as a Patent & Trade Mark Attorney for over five years. He then spent over six years working at one of Australasia's largest IP firms, advancing to the position of Senior Associate and helping a diverse range of clients with their IP needs. Pritesh was welcomed back in May 2024 as a Partner in our patents team.
Pritesh has extensive experience, advising clients on strategic protection and enforcement of their patent and design rights in New Zealand, Australia and internationally. He has also developed significant expertise prosecuting patents and design applications in Australia and New Zealand on behalf of international clients. His expertise spans a wide range of areas, including: Mechanical engineering, Electronics, Robotics, Business methods, IT software, Fintech and AI technologies. Pritesh is also experienced at conducting all types of patent searches and advising clients on patentability, validity, and freedom to operate (FTO), as well as assisting with litigious proceedings. He also has experience representing clients in both patent and trade mark hearings, and preparing for oppositions and revocation proceedings.
Pritesh has extensive experience working with a broad client base worldwide, ranging from individuals and SMEs to universities and large multinational corporations. While his practice is truly global, he has been particularly active in New Zealand and Australia, and has also worked directly with inventors and companies across Hong Kong, China, the United States and Europe. He has a keen interest in working with startups and SMEs, guiding founders through the complexities of the IP landscape and helping them secure robust protection that supports growth, attracts investment, and builds a competitive edge. Some of the startups he has supported early on have since grown into well-known companies. He firmly believes IP is not just about protection, but a powerful asset that drives innovation, supports expansion, and strengthens market position.
Outside of work, Pritesh loves keeping up to date with developments in intellectual property, regularly attending IP committee meetings, seminars and conferences. He is also a regular attendee of the AIPPI World Congress. Alongside his professional commitments, Pritesh is a jetsetter who loves traveling the world, immersing himself in diverse cultures and cuisines.
