Welcome to the new version of Pipers’ Worldwide List of IP Attorneys (WWL).
This version should be easier to use than our original listing. We have omitted the physical address of each attorney firm, as we assume you will contact them via email. In most cases, we have listed the firm's general email address; however, some addresses appear as "NULL" in the listing, as certain firms do not publish a general email address and instead request that you use the contact form on their website.

The most significant change to the WWL is the addition of an acronym for each firm.
For over 20 years, we have promoted the use of a unique firm reference in the subject line of emails, to avoid the repeated use of the terms "your reference" and "our reference," which can become confusing in an email exchange - particularly when firms use file references or matter numbers of a similar format. This makes it difficult to automatically identify the correct file reference in order to match the communication to the relevant file or matter number.
Our solution is to adopt an acronym for each firm's name and use it in place of the term "our reference." For this to work, each patent attorney firm in the world needs a unique acronym. We have attempted to address this by including a suggested acronym for each firm in the WWL.
Our automated mail system records both outgoing and incoming emails by detecting the string "Pipers Ref:" followed by the relevant file reference.
On the assumption that other firms may wish to use a similar automated system to store emails against the relevant file, it would be sensible for each firm to adopt a unique acronym based on its own name.
If you have already adopted a different acronym and would like us to use it in the worldwide list, please contact us at webmaster@piperpat.com so that we can update our records and adjust other acronyms as needed to ensure yours remains unique within our list.
We have taken the liberty of suggesting an acronym for each firm in the WWL.
We appreciate your assistance in ensuring these acronyms are used effectively, and we hope to collectively operate an effective system for communication between firms around the world.
