IPONZ examiners will use the new version for classifying applications accepted and published from Patent Office Journal January 2014 onwards. Patents applied for prior to 1 January 2014 are not automatically reclassified. Hence, when searching for a patent with IPC classification codes, it is recommended to use IPC classification codes from both the current and earlier versions of the IPC for a complete search.
