On 4 December 2013 the Flags, Emblems, and Names Protection Amendment Act 2013 came into force to protect against the unauthorised use of words or emblems relating to the 28th Māori Battalion. The Commissioner shall not register a Trade Mark or Design which includes representations of the 28th Māori Battalion.
