Lower CHF Equivalent Madrid Fees Soon for Key Countries
From 12th April 2026, the amounts payable in Swiss Francs (CHF) will lower for International Registrations that designate or subsequently designate several key countries, and for renewals involving designations in those countries.
In total 16 countries and a regional organisation will apply lower CHF amounts from that date, with key countries being Australia, China, Japan, the Republic of Korea and the United States of America. This follows our earlier notification of lower CHF equivalent Madrid fees applying for New Zealand from 23rd November 2025.
Rule 35(2)(d) of the Madrid Protocol Regulations requires WIPO to adjust the CHF equivalent amounts if a contracting party has declared it wants to receive fees in its own currency and for more than 3 consecutive months the CHF equivalent amount has decreased by at least 10%.
Consequently, where deadlines allow, it will be cheaper to wait until on or after the 12th April 2026 to designate or subsequently designate those countries in respect of an International Registration under the Madrid Protocol and to renew an International Registration that designates those countries. It may also make the business case for including those countries amongst the designations of interest more appealing.
The specific amounts of the current and forthcoming CHF equivalent fees for each class of goods or services are given below and provided by WIPO in the country links below.
