IPONZ Patent and Trade Mark Fees will Change on 13 February 2020

Significant fee rises will take effect in respect of patents and fee reductions for trade marks from 13th February 2020...

Patents
Many maintenance and renewal fees will at least double.
The application fee doubles to $500.
The fee for requesting examination or re-examination will increase by 50% to $750.
Excess claim fees will take effect - being charged at $120 for each complete set of 5 claims in excess of 25 where examination was requested on or after 13th February 2020 - this being determined by the maximum number of claims in issue during examination. The fee is charged after acceptance and needs to be paid before grant.
Amendment after acceptance under either the current or the old Patents Act becomes $500, while amendment before acceptance under the old Act becomes $150.
Patent restoration becomes $600.

Trade Marks
The renewal fee decreases from $350 to $200.
The application fee reduces from $150 to $100, or less if specification consists only of pre-approved descriptions.
